SSC Stenographer Recruitment Notification 2017:
For the recruitment of SSC Stenographer Grade-C and Grade-D posts, Common competitive examinations will be organized by the Staff Selection Commission. Grade C and Grade D exams are organized at the same time. The question paper for written exam is similar for both examinations, but the skill test of both examinations is different. Appointment of stenographer for about 4000 to 5000 posts every year is done by SSC. This year, the posts of stenographer Grade-C and grade-D in this number is to be filled through this examination. Prepare the list of information sought in the application form and after preparing all the documents sought before, start the online application process. SSC stenographer grades-C and grade-D examination applications are filled online. In order to fill the online application, the candidates have to go to the Commission’s website and find the link for the concerned examination. After this, the process of application has to be completed in a phased manner. The application fee for the said examination will also be paid online. Payment of examination fee has been determined according to the category of candidates. Eligibility for SSC Stenographer Grade-C and Grade-D:
A brief description regarding the minimum qualifications set for SSC stenographer Grade-C and grade-D examination is given below. Through this, you can learn about the qualifications related to age, educational qualifications and citizenship. Detailed eligibility for the said examination is given in official notification. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will submit their application for the said examination. Candidates who are participating in this examination for the first time should print and understand all the information given in this section by giving the printout of official notification.
The candidates applying should be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan living in India from or before 1962.
The candidates applying for these vacancies should not be more than 27 years and the minimum age limit is 18 years. Age relaxation is given to the candidates belonging to the reserved categories.
The candidates applying for these vacancies should have passed class 12th from a recognized board. Apart from this, the candidate should have knowledge of Hindi Shorthand or English Shorthand. Candidates who passed the written examination are called for a skill test. Skills test evaluates the speed of the shorthand of the candidates. For this, a 10-minute dictation for stenographer grade C is spoken at a speed of 100 words per minute and for Stenographer Grade-D post is said to be 10 minutes of dictation at 80 words per minute. The said dictation has to be written in the shorthand and candidates are transcribed in the respective language (Hindi or English) by the computer.
Skill test of SSC stenographer grade C and grade D is a qualifying examination. It is necessary to qualify this exam. Candidates who cannot qualify for this examination are considered as failures in the said examination, even if their maximum marks in the written examination are not.
Online Application Process for SSC Stenographer Exam:
The candidates those are eligible can apply online for this exam by following these steps. So, candidates need to first open the official website of SSC @ssconline.nic.in. Now the candidates have to go to the recruitment section and select the post they want to apply here for. Read all the instructions and then click on apply online. After this, fill the application form and submit the details. In the end, pay the application fee and take a printout of the application form for future references.
The candidates applying for this exam have to pay an amount of Rs 100 as the application fee. The candidates belonging to SC, ST, PWD, EX-serviceman and the female candidates don’t have to pay any application fee.
Selection Process of SSC Stenographer:
The candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance on the online written test. The selected candidates will be called in for the skill test. Skill test is a qualifying test and after passing in that examination the selected candidates will be filling the vacancies as Stenographer in Government departments.
Preliminary Written Examination Pattern for SSC Stenographer:
SSC stenographer preliminary examination pattern or the syllabus has been defined by the commission. Objective type questions are asked in the written examination. This question paper has to be completed in a period of 2 hours. The time duration for disabled candidates is 2 hours and 20 minutes. Under this question paper, questions related to General Intelligence and Reasoning is asked. There are 50-50 questions from both the topics and 100 questions are of this question paper. In the written examination, the second question paper is of General Awareness. This question paper also has to be completed less than 2 hours. The questions of language and convention are asked in the third question paper of the written examination. For solving this question paper, the time period is 2 hours for general category candidates and 2 hours 20 minutes for candidates of disabilities. The third question paper is also based on the objective type multiple choice. This question paper is in both Hindi and English languages. Language for this question paper is to be chosen by the candidate during the application process. There is also negative marking during evaluation in the said examination program. According to the rules of negative marking, 25% of the total value of the respective question on the wrong answer falls below the marks obtained by the candidate.
Skill Test or Shorthand Test Pattern:
Candidates passed in SSC stenographer’s written examination is called for Shorthand or skill test. So, candidates must cross the point of cut-off merit to pass the written examination. The point of the cut-off merit is determined relative to the total vacancies. 20 times of total vacancies in the examination are called for skill test, on the basis of such number, cut off is determined.
The same candidates will be called for a skill test which will qualify for the written examination. For this, the qualifying marks will be determined by the commission. Different qualifying marks for stenographer Grade-C and stenographer grade-D will be determined. Qualifying marks will be based on the standard set by the Commission and will set different category candidates. 10 times the number of vacancies will be called for stenography shorthand test. In this examination, a 10-minute dictation will be spoken in Hindi and English. The candidate must write in the shorthand. Dictation will be spoken at the speed of 100 words per minute for stenographer grade C and dictation will be spoken for stenographer grade-D at 80 words per minute. There will be different dictation in both Hindi and English languages.
Skill test takes shorthand speed. The candidate’s shorthand speed is evaluated in this test. Under this, for the SSC stenographer grade C examination, the person has to pass the shorthand examination at a speed of 100 words per minute. Similarly, for the SSC stenographer grade D exam, 80 words per minute has to be passed. This examination is a qualifying test and the candidate is required to pass it in. A separate list is prepared for candidates who pass the skill test examination. Out of the candidates passing the Skill test, the final selection list is prepared based on the maximum number of marks in the written examination.
Shorthand Skill Test Procedure for SSC Stenographer Grade-C:

Shorthand Skill Test Procedure for SSC Stenographer Grade-D:

- Transcription Time- 65 Minutes
- 10 Minute English Dictation- 80 WPM Speed
- Transcription Time- 50 Minutes
Note- After completing the dictation, candidates will be placed in the computer room for transcription and through the scheduled software set by the Commission, the said dictation is to be translated under certain time period.
Merit list of candidates will be issued on the basis of the marks obtained in both the examinations and the eligible candidates will be given appointment to posts of stenographer grade C and grade D in different government departments under the Government of India by the Public Service Commission.
